Palmolie: the good, the bad and the ugly

Palmolie: the good, the bad and the ugly

Tibbe Verschaffel
Oil palms grow best in low-lying, warm and humid areas around the equator, precisely where tropical rainforests thrive, but also in the hot savannah regions of Central Africa and Latin America. The development of palm oil plantations has led to large-scale deforestation, especially in Indonesia and Malaysia.

What is the problem with palm oil?

Hectares of trees are being cut down with all the consequences that come with it:

  • Local population and endangered animals lose their habitat
  • The destruction of forests and the draining of peatlands creates highly flammable areas. Indonesia literally goes up in flames every year as a result. The suffocating smoke causes serious health problems for hundreds of thousands of people.
  • Deforestation, which is often accompanied by severe forest fires, releases a lot of CO2. This causes the climate on earth to change even faster.
  • The use of pesticides on the plantations completely depletes the soil and causes irreparable damage.

All our products are free of palm oil, we use divine oils 😏
